The Belles welcomed Hinckley Borough Diamonds from the silver league in the league cup. A full squad of players as the formation was switched. Captain Eliza partnering Scarlet upfront, as Darcy dropped into centre midfield and Iris started on the right.
The Belles started off quickly and it was clear that Eliza's pace and running off the shoulder of the defender was going to be an issue for the opposition. A through ball found her one on one with the goalkeeper as she applied a delightful finish into the net. A second soon followed and this time it was Scarlet. She received the ball and fired into the top corner as the Belles blistering start showed no sign of letting off.
Lola nearly sent Eliza away yet again but the goalkeeper was brave. Then Scarlet tapped in only for the goal to be ruled out for a tight offside. The oppositions physical striker tried to break away but Monica won the ball back. The Belles confidence on the ball continued to grow with all the players wanting it. Some excellent work from Caitlin saw Amie run down the left, her brilliant cross was met by Darcy who finished from close range.
Iris was having a storming game on the right, every time she got the ball she drove forward or passed the ball. Her decision making was perfect all game. Eliza for her second by capitalizing on a loose ball to score. The Belles pushed for another goal in the first half, Amie fired over at the far post then Iris blazed over from a lovely cross. The Belles did however get a goal before the interval, Oliwia expertly brought the ball down and let fly from distance which eluded the grasp of the goalkeeper and into the goal.
At half time, we asked to keep the momentum going and to continue to want the ball.
Ava, who had moved to right midfield bought a good save from the goalkeeper, then the goalkeeper made another brave save with Eliza bearing down on goal.
A goal did come though, via another lovely team move. Darcy was played in the channel with her run and being met by Eliza to complete her hat trick! Lols got in front of the forward, she drove forward but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper. A short corner routine, saw Lola fire towards the goal as the ball whizzed just over the bar.
Ava jinked through but just couldn't get a shot away, then some quick feet from Evie saw her drive forward to set Amie up for a cross but it was cleared.
Another quality moment saw the Belles get another goal. The ball was played into Lois, who played a sublime pass to Darcy as she struck beyond the goalkeeper for her second of the game.
The Belles were ticking away nicely, with Freya breaking away but her shot was blocked, then another cross from Iris was gathered by the goalkeeper at the feet of Chloe.
Darcy drove forward and squared to Eliza who yet again finished well. It was a nice goal and Eliza's fourth of the game. Eliza is in fantastic form at the moment!
Oliwia's shot was then cleared, then Caitlin fired just wide after creating herself an opportunity. Esme then sent a goal kick which nearly got Freya away again and then Caitlin tried to square the ball to Chloe but there was just too much on the cross. A corner was won for the Belles. Lois whipped it in and there was Iris to slam home into the roof of the net. A brilliant moment for Iris, who thoroughly deserved a goal for a magnificent display all game.
The full time whistle went to end a really efficient and composed Belles performance. It was pleasing to see all the players showing for the ball and having the confidence to play. Some of the football was of real high quality and a lot of the players played in a variety of positions.
Players of the match went to Eliza and Iris. Eliza for her well taken four goals and her excellent pace in the final third, she was a huge threat all game! To Iris, who was simply magnificent all game. Her decision making was perfect and showed real determination to drive the Belles forward. Her goal was the cherry on the cake!
Well done both and well done Belles, as we march into the next round of the league cup!
On another note the Belles were sporting their new jackets. Huge thanks to Inspiron for the sponsorship, it really means a lot to us!
