The Lionesses knew they were going to be in for a tough game today against a strong Barrow side that have recruited well in the off season.
Unfortunately after a solid start from the Lionesses we conceded that seem to get the opposition tails up. Barrow dominated the loose balls and broke down our attacking threat or when we tried to play out from the back which left us struggling to get any field position.
At half time, 3 nil down we asked the girls for a reaction but unfortunately Barrow seemed to always have the upper hand.
Elsie started strongly for the Lionesses and we missed her attacking creativity when she had to leave the field in the first half. Similarly Anya had a good start to the game which is never easy when you are returning to your old club. She had lots of success with some cute balls in the final third or in transition.
In a challenging morning of football our standout players were Isla and Liv who were both award players of the match. Both showed incredible commitment throughout the game and did exactly what we asked of the team today, playing with intensity, desire and commitment out of possession to stop Barrow’s relentless attacks. Well done girls, certainly set the standard on how we ask each other to play.
A late conciliation goal for Jess help give the girls a little lift. We go again next week and look to learn from some of our undoing today.
