It was Derby day for Bosworth as our two U16s teams competed for a place in the last 4 of the league cup. Well done to the Hawks who battled throughout and never gave up, but the quality of the Lionesses showed, as they took a three nil half time lead with goals from Aleeza and Elsie. In spells the Lionesses tried to overplay and force things through the middle, but they had the intelligence to make minor tweaks to their in game decision making, going back to the game plan, which when executed created lots of success.
Second half the Lionesses continued to play intelligent football. Jess got on the end of a great corner to add her name to the score sheet with a fantastic volley and Elsie had a solo run cutting through the masses in the middle to slot home. Finally, Aleeza secured her hattrick and has been clinical this season in the final third.
There were two Axiom Ltd players of the week today. Isla took the accolades from the leadership team of Jess, Liv and Elsie. May need to rename her Miss Versatile as wherever she plays so has such an impact on the game. Today to help rotate the squad she actually played in three different positions, even covering at the back for a injury at one point. Isla is most effective driving forward on the wing, but what is really positive to see is her composure on the ball and her ability to square up her defender and accelerate at pace. She is starting to put some disguise into her attacks which is testament to just how hard she has worked this season on her individual game. It is great to see her teammates recognise the contribution to the team and she certainly sets the standards with her work rate.
Second player of the week chosen by Coach Roscoe was the whole team. He challenged the girls to match Isla’s work rate this week both in and out of possession. They certainly stepped up, but what we also saw was spells of play that showed great game awareness, understanding of where the opportunities were and intelligence to enact the game plan we discussed from the start.
Well done Lionesses and good luck to the Hawks for the remainder of the season.
