Fresh but bright morning for football. Sonics settled into the game after a few minutes and were playing some good football. Ben in goal with Freya and Leighton in defence were working together to progress the ball up the pitch.
We had some spurts of brilliant play with Tom in the middle using the wings of either George, Jenson, Jake or William. All the players in the wing worked hard to track back and push forwards.
Jack and James in the striker position were pushing constantly for a goal. Our first goal of the game came through some determined wing play and constant attacking of the ball, with William getting a foot to take the ball round a very good opposition goalkeeper and slot it away. The opposition were spurred on from that and attacked and did catch us off guard.
The second half we tried to get the players to re set and think about the basics, we started well but were constantly pushed and under pressure today. Jenson had some lovely footwork, and attacking play on the left wing and was rewarded with a slowly rolling in goal around the GK. All sonics worked hard today in whatever role they played! All players stayed strong throughout the game but one player stood out for his holding up of the defence, his ability to attack the goal, remain strong and nearly getting a chip of the ball over a very good GK.
Today’s player of the week was James! Well done James and all of the sonics!
