The U13 Dragons hosted Overseal Whirlwinds on Saturday morning as they went head to head in this latest league fixture. Previous meetings between the two sides have been fiercely contested and so an equally competitive game was anticipated again this time around.
The first half looked to be heading for a stalemate despite the Dragons claiming the majority of chances in the duration; the boys playing some lovely confident football to carve out numerous chances whilst also demonstrating their work rate to track back and defend as a team when needed. The opposition back line was finally penetrated on the stroke of half time as the Dragons broke free and Lucas finished neatly to break the deadlock and go in on the interval with a slender lead.
As the second half got underway the Dragons looked to capitalise further and reaped their reward with another two goals from Lucas as Overseal committed players forward to claw themselves back in the game. The opposition had a temporary glimmer of hope as they scored to make it 3-1 but were pegged back again as Charlie G smashed in a fourth following a fine individual run from his own half. With opposition confidence dwindling, the boys broke free again and added a fifth through Lucas once more before Overseal grabbed their second in what proved to be a consolation. The boys were fantastic today and played a great passing game; Mason putting in a fantastic shift in an all round solid defensive back line whilst Alekh delivered a POTM performance in a newly adopted CDM role.
Well done boys and onto the next!
