Table topper AFC Market Bosworth under 16’s visited West Bridgford Sabres and need the victory to be crowned League champion’s.
With beautiful sunshine and a well manicured pitch that resembled one of Bruce Forsyth’s syrup’s, the scene was set for the penultimate game to begin.
AFC went instantly for the kill and within three minutes from the start of the game Nat F slipped Frenchy through on goal who smashed one of his trade mark right footed “scud missiles” off the oppositions post. The away team’s intention was clearly laid out just like a Frank Bruno right hook and AFC wanted to get the job done sooner rather than later.
West Bridgford soaked up the early pressure and slowly came into the game and posed a tough challenge for AFC to deal with at times.
With our regular defensive shape held together today by Ollie W, vice captain Harry T, team captain Rue G and Ollie E, the WALL of Bosie constantly kept West Bridgford at bay. However, on the odd occasion when the wall was breached, we had todays POTM Adam B in goal who performed at his very best to pull off one or two cracking saves that wouldn’t have been mistaken for Jan Tomaszewski. Tipping one goal bound shot onto the bar was brilliant to see and really deserves a mention.
After 20 minutes the referee blew for a quick drinks break and AFC coaches managed to get clear instructions to the team who came out once again on top. With Midfielders Reuben S, Tommo, Charlie H and Nat F the attacks kept coming and Nat F managed to dink a through ball with back spin to a full springing Frenchy who calmly chipped the oncoming keeper with the ball landing in the back of the net as though putting a baby down to sleep. 0-1 to Bosie at Half time.
To great effect on stepped during the first half and start of the second “H”, Charlie W, Tasker, Jack W and Frankie H. All contributing well and help keep the pressure on the home team. With POTM Adam rolling the ball out to right back “H,” who travelled around 20 yards, then launched a cracking 50 yard pass in behind the West Bridgford defence, found Alex who calmly rounded the keeper and slipped AFC into a 0-2 lead. What a pass from “H” and we gather may have cost his dad a few bob in rewards!
At this point the AFC coaches and traveling supporters could sense the league title was within touching distance. West Bridgford had different ideas and pounced with a goal against the run of play that really put the cat amongst pigeons!
With the scoreline poised at 1-2 and ten minutes to play, on stepped from his rest on the bench team captain Rue G. Playing in a more advanced position managed to pick up the ball in the opposition’s box and some how like a true leader got the ball over the line and close out this title winning game 1-3 to AFC.
Many congratulations to the players, coaches and parents for this amazing experience.
One more game to go next Saturday and hopefully try and clinch the double.
